FAQ

How do you get HDTV into your property?

To distribute HDTV in your property you need to have these things:

1. HDTV Programming (i.e. DISH Network): A video signal sent from a satellite to an installed commercial satellite dish and delivered to HD satellite receivers in the property’s headend.

2. Pro:Idiom® encryption QAM:
A unit incorporating QAM that converts the high-definition signal into to an encrypted QAM stream that can be delivered through the hotel distribution network. Programmers broadcasting in HD, such as ESPN-HD, HBO-HD and SHOWTIME-HD require this in order to protect their content from piracy. This unit also changes the frequency of the video signal so that it can be viewed on the desired channel number. For example, if HBO-HD is coming in on channel 4160, the QAM modulator could change the frequency so that it can be viewed on channel 5 at your property.

3. Pro:Idiom® HDTV:
Pro:Idiom® enabled HDTVs have the ability to decode the encrypted signal sent from the headend so that the content can be seen by your guest.

4. Have you noticed something missing?
With a Pro:Idiom®-enabled HDTV, no set-top box is needed.

That's four, what's the fifth?

What exactly is Pro:Idiom®?

Pro:Idiom® is a digital content protection system tailored for the hospitaility industry. It allows a central decoder in a hotel to decrypt video from a headend or satellite feed and re-encode it for secure delivery to TV sets in each room. Pro:Idiom® is a content protection technology that can be used in both bi-directional and one-way systems.

Why Pro:Idiom®?

Content protection was not as big a concern when all of the content was analog. But as free-to-guest programming moves towards HD, digital rights management is being required as part of the transition. In other words, if you want to transmit High-Definition content to the television in a hotel/motel, hospital, or any other free-to-guest facility, the transmission must be encoded. In addition, Pro:Idiom® eliminates the need to use set-top boxes with special TV sets from LG, Samsung, Panasonic, Sharp, Philips, and others.

Who's using Pro:Idiom® now?

The list of who’s deploying Pro:Idiom® is growing everyday. Most TV sets sold to the hospitality industry now have Pro:Idiom®. As of mid-2010, Pro:Idiom® is installed on about 1.5 million out of the 5.5 million total screens in the U.S. hospitality industry.
